460 Hydraulics AGAIN !

Last nite while running the haybine suddenly it felt like i dropped a plow in the ground. I figured out by moving any of the hydraulic controls the problem stopped. I have had the hydraulics apart for leaks several times but still is a mess. Is there a function or a popoff valve that is hanging up? If so where the H is it? and How hard to correct this problem. Thanks if advance for your help!

The orifice in your safety/pressure-control valve block is plugged. Your system is consequently continuously loaded and putting that load on the tractor engine. When you move one of the control valve handles you give the hydraulic fluid somewhere to go (to the cylinder controlled by that valve), rather than forcing it to go through the high-pressure safety valve.

This is a pretty common problem for these systems. You'll need to pull the valve block and clean it, especially the orifice in the control circuit. This problem may mean your entire hydraulic system needs to be cleaned out, also.

Good luck.

Well That Worked, But i noticed that the check valve is missing its brass screen. Any thoughts here?
I priced one on the CIH parts and its seems to be very dear to them.
thanks
Jim

That's probably why the orifice got plugged...

It's pricey, but that's the only place you're going to be able to get the part. Heck count yourself lucky you can even get a new replacement part for a 50-year-old tractor, from the dealer no less.
