Is it different than a regular M? It says to " remove the LH bull pinion shaft bearing cage assembly"

If I remember right, my dad and uncle broke this when trying to install our clutch. They didn't realize the bull gear had to come loose. And they didn't take the cover off, but had to when it came time to put a replacement bearing cage in.

Years later, when I was a lot stronger, seems like we removed the bull gear bolt by removing the PTO and working through the PTO hole. I lifted that bull gear back in place, but dont think I could do it any longer.

I have the installation and maintenance pamphlet for an M, MD, W-6 and WD-6

The bull pinions can be removed on IH disc brake tractors without removing the carrier housing. Several years since I messed with a SM one but pretty sure when he gets down to unbolting the adapter plate thats used to mount outside housing , the one that bolts to brake cover holes on a band brake M. That plate is what holds the bull pinion gear in on a disc brake tractor. They used a band brake on left like a regular M on there super set up. Do remember for sure removing and installing SM units from the outside.

I'm sure there is a trick to re4moving the carrier, but I don't know what it is. I think I tapped 3 or 4 screwdrivers in behind it and worked it out, and that there is a big ole o-ring that seals it.
