farmall m clutch

I burnt up the clutch the other day in my M and was wondering what would be the easiest way to replace it. I"d rather not split the tractor if I didn"t have to as I don"t have the stands

Thanks

You can replace the clutch and pressure plate through the bottom of the tractor after you remove the liftall. The hardest part is wiggling the front half of the input shaft past the back half once you get them separated.

Of course if you burned up the clutch the flywheel may need to be turned. That will require a split.

On a H, I can't get the drive shaft out without a split, not enough room to slide it back. How is this on the M? I might check out the clutch on the M I'm fixing up.

Remove the pressure plate bolts, pull the shaft out of the pilot brg. and tip the whole thing to one side enough to remove.

The trick to getting the shaft out of both the H and M is to install three of the pressure plate mounting bolts in the holes in the pressure plate cover to compress the springs. When you get the release bearing carrier unbolted from the center housing the shaft will come out. You need to drop the disk out first and the the pressure plate will come out.
