spark farmall H 52

ihave a 52 H it is hard to start no power the spark seams weak to me it is smaal and hard to see the coil gets hot to touch. i replaced it same same new cap/rotor wires plugs points lookgood. so what else. thank for any help Matt S

Matt: With the limited amount of information you provided, it's hard to say. Is it 6v or 12v? Is it positive ground, or negative ground? You may have a 6v coil in a 12v application??? What about a ballast resistor in a 12v application?

I'd replace the points and condenser anyway, they're usually the first to go. Make sure all connections from switch to coil to distributor are clean and tight.

ok 6 volt + ground, new 6 volt coil that gets soo hot you cant hold on to it the old does the same thing, i just replced all the wiring, yes right ga and it is wired up according to spec, what does the condencer do?

Put a piece of plastic in between the points, and see if there is voltage at the connection on the side of the distributor. If there is not, the insulator where the points connect is not doing its job, or the condenser is shorted, or a lead is pinched to ground. a hot coil is sure to be on. if it is on for five minutes without running it should be warm to hot. They are not intended to be on W/O running. JimN
