I've been having some troubles with my 240U surging under a moderate load. While climbing a hill she does fine but under a lighter load she surges and stumbles.
I searched the archives on this and no one seems to know what the idle mixture screw is for. Like several others, my mixture screw has virtually no affect on performance. If I turn it out 1/2 or 3/4 of a turn it runs OK. Any farther and it starts to flood. It actually runs best with it turned all the way in against it's seat.
Could the float be out of adjustment? I also wonder about my governor but I don't want to tear open everything at once when I'm not certain of the cause.

Rob: Try the adjustment on linkage between carburator and governors. May take a bit of trial and error. There are probably others on here can give you exact direction and number turns on yoke, based on your discription. I only do this once every 10 years, thus don't bother to remember.

Thanks Hugh. I have the yoke from the carb lined up with the governor linkage so that the pin will slide in when both are wide open. It wasn't like that when I started and that adjustment did help some but it didn't stop the problem completely.

Rob: Go a turn or two beyond where you stopped. One of these items you tinker with until you have it just right.
