Absent Minded Farmer

my apologies. I didn"t mean to go off earlier. I"m a bit skittish in the morning when the coffee is kickin" me before lunch. I was doing some thinking, today. What is the shaft speed on a 6v delco (original on 400) genny & a 12v Delco genny (IH dealer converted W6)? I think I might have a few more 6v on top of the garage. I"d like to set up a motor, tomorrow & do some bench testing. See if I have at least one good one to work with. Maybe I"ll just switch things back to 6v. I won"t be using this tractor in the winter, anyhow. I don"t think I"ll have the $ for a new alt. I need to locate some rims & tires, front & rear, before any more major expenditures. Thanks - Mike

On a system in trouble, I am going to suggest removing a battery cable while doing stuff. (I know the temptation and fallen from grace in a cloud of smoke myself) Unless the alternator got zapped, lets do it tomorrow. JimN

I got up today, did the usual routine & hit the ground running. The cable was a regretable oversight. I used to be so good at the electrical "game". I can't believe I can become so distant after 10 years of not having to do too much with electrical anythings. I rewired my model A when I was 15 & my Galaxie when I was 17. It came to me pretty easy. I refuse to believe I'm getting goofy at 31. I guess I'll have to freshen up on my wiring & carburetor skills before they go the way of the do-do. I thank you kindly for your help. Tomorrow is always a fresh one. -Mike

I am 60. The reality is that it is a lot easier to sit here and think about it with you than do it in fact. The store wanted 30.00$ for a graphite exhaust doughnut for my Subaru Outback. I just turned one out of stainless for 20 minutes time on a Clausing. (too much fun) Jim
