QUESTIONS on Hydraulic oil temp on a Farmall...

I have a Farmall 504 Diesel that I added a loader and a 17 gpm pump to couple of years ago. I bush hogged yesterday (heavy stuff, 6' cutter) for about 5 hours. When I got back to the shop I shot the tractor at the pump plate and various areas of the rear portion of the tractor with a non-contact infared temp gun. I got 178-190 degrees. Is this normal? I have some small leaks on the 3 point, I know that makes some heat. Also the IPTO clutches are wet and that could contribute to the heat load as well. Considering the tractor only holds 10-12 gallons of hydraulic tractor fluid and only has the power steering cooler, maybe this is as good as it gets. It gets hot like this when pulling a round baler too...

International Harvester said normal hydraulic fluid temperature should be 100 degrees F. over ambient temperature.

That is good to know and it seems about right. It has been 95-102 deg here in the "hotbox" I live in, Louisiana. So about 95 deg + the 100 deg differential, would equal about 190 deg... I was a little concerned, knowing my 3 point "hiccups" a little when holding a load, indicating a leak somewhere in the system. I was worried the leak was causing excessive heat loading on the system.

Thanks again,

Charles
