Are Tire Prices Coming Down - Or Did I Just Get Lucky?

Howdy, boys:
I've been needing rears for the SH and have been shopping for the last year. (One of mine is the original Firestone "Gum Dipped".)
I've been getting prices from $395 to $478 for 12.4-38, 4-ply Firestone Field and Road, 23-degree.....
Anyway, I stopped in GCR Tire Centers in Tuscumbia, Alabama and got a price from them of $290 each. I was pleasantly surprised and bought a pair on the spot.
Anyone else seeing a drop in rubber prices?

I haven't seen any change in tractor prices. I keep asking my local dealer if the 11.2 X 36 have dropped in price for my Super C. He continually assures me they haven't.

Mike: An old man getting lucky, beginning to wonder what I was reading. Ah heck, tires. Around here, they see silver hair or the lack of it, I think they add on 20%. As a guy said to me one Sat morning, " By the time a guy reaches your age, he should have enough money, that he doesn't have to play grease monkey around old tractors on the weekend." Ah, but I got him back.

The guy probably bought them in 1999 for 100 ea.. Better to be lucky than smart!
I remember one time I was traveling from CA to SD to go hunting. Saw a salvage yard off the road in Utah and took a look. Bought a 57 convert frame and not a lot else and went into the office to settle up. On the wall was a pair of the vented Corvette hubcaps, 56-58.Dead perfect. I said "those are nice, how much". Owner says, " I know how much those bring. Have to have 50 dollars each". I said , you are a hard man to deal with, and a smart man, I will give you 40 dollars. He took it. In less than a year I flipped them to an insurance agent friend for $300.

Retcol,
Would you be interested in set of used, but with treads like new, set of 11.2x36 Firestone Field & Road tires, bought new & mounted in 1998 but never really run?
If so, please send me an email.

Regards!

I'm still looking for a nice set of 14.9 x 26 rears if anyone has a set laying around. Sorry if that's hi-jacking this thread... it just seemed like a good place to mention it again.
