Replacement VR

Not long ago several of you remarked on the short life your voltage regulator enjoyed. Well I joined the club. Have been chasing every other link in the charging chain on my SHII. Mr records indicated new one installed June 07.
But someone was peddling them on ebay for 25 bucks so I got one. Installed today and ammeter jumped right up there ot around 15 amps.
Mine was purchased at TSC, Made in USA on label. MFR number VR1814 IHC121578C1,
Label only says "Replacementparts-Accessories "
Maybe if enough of us complain they can make a better product.

I"m right there with you, I"m on VR #3 in 6 months on my 300, getting kind of expensive, 2 from TSC, 1 from local dealer.

I have a 300 utility 6-volt that went through a couple of aftermarket VRs back in the late 60's. In 1974 or so I bought a genuine Delco from our IH dealer. It's been working perfectly now for 35 years and it is used every winter to move snow. Bought a VR for a 450-D from Case-IH about 5-6 years ago and that too is working fine. It might be more costly to buy Case-IH VRs, but they seem to last. You should still be able to get one for a 300. Just my opinion. Al

Hi, Gordo: The best luck I have had is with ones sold by NAPA. I bought one from them 3-4 years ago. It was about $66 but it is doing great....

Why can't someone make a VR that is solid state? I think most of the problems are from the contacts and the coils that are so adjustment dependent. Somthing gets a little out of wack and thats it, no charge. There must be 20+ old VR's that have been replaced over the years laying around in the old shed's here on the farm. I have fixed all my VR problems by installing the small jap alternaters on my Farmall's.
