Alright now, 12v battery neg ground - pos goes to the solenoid. 12v Delco SI 10 alt in place. Big batt post on alt is connected to the left ammeter post (gray wire). The red wire on the ammeter post is going to the same post on the sol as the + batt cable. The orange wire runs from the solenoid to the sol terminal on the key switch. The black wire runs from the ign post on the key switch to the resistor. The #2 post on the alt has a 6" jumper that runs to the big batt post on the alt. Now, do I run a wire from #1 post, on the alt, to the same post as the black wire on the key switch? What is to become of the green wire that goes to the old 6v regulator? Do these two wires go together, somehow, maybe? Probably not, that would be too easy. Also, do I need a resistor on the distributor, even though it may have a 12v coil? How can I tell if it's a 12v coil when the only thing on it says made in freekin china? I can't help but feel that I'm in the home stretch with a signless fork in the road. Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated. - Mike

All is well till you get to the word "Now".
Run a wire from the #1 post of the alt to a marker light bulb (by its self), or the marked end of a 3 amp 100piv power diode. the other terminal of the light bulb or non marked end of the diode goes to the same terminal on the key switch, or the coil + terminal(if it has a 12volt coil no external resistor needed), or to the Key side of the external (ballast) resistor (it needs a ballast resistor if it has the original 6v coil, or a 12v external resistor required coil).
This allows the alt to know when to charge, and when to stop charging.
The original VR should be discarded (or given a rest under the bench.
The green wire is not used.
The resistor is not needed if the coil measures twice the resistance across its little terminals than a 6volt coil. It will work well.

I'm about an hour and a half away, a little ways outside of West Bend. May be a little out of the way for you & I don't want to be a bother. I'm going to try JimN's post below & see what happens, first. If all else falis, I'm never opposed to some company. If I'm not too far away, that is. I am looking for someone to help me out with my McCormick seperator one of these days. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, of course. Well, I should get to it, then. Off I go! Thanks - Mike
