adjust carb.

I want to thank all of those who helped with advise on my previous question. My H would die after thirty seconds and lost power when under strain from brush hog. I tuned it up , changed coil, battery, and cleaned carb. and put in a new carb. kit. Runs better but still not there. there was alot of sediment in gas bowl, will clean tank. Is there advice on fine tuning the carb. since we put a new kit in it. Still loses power under strain, need some help adjusting the screw settings. Thanks

Was there a bunch of crud in the screen at the carb?
Turn out the load screw 1/2 turn at a time while under load to see if it gets better. JimN

Thanks, I have not seen a screen yet, lot of gunk in the carb, will clean carb. again tank and add a screen if I can not find it. Appreciate the help.

There is a two part fitting in the fuel line where the steel line attaches to the carb. It can be torn off and destroyed by previous owners, but it is supposed to be there. Good luck, JimN

Cleaning the carb means disassembly, soaking in REAL carb cleaner overnight if possible and blowing out with compressed air. Float setting is 1 27/32 from the bottom of float to top of gasket, meaning the float is essentially level. Set the idle speed so that it runs smoothly, then turn the idle mixture screw in until it stumbles and out until smooth. Then at wide open throttle and tractor warm turn the main screw in until it stumbles then out until smooth plus maybe 1/4-1/2 turn. Move throttle to low idle and advance rapidly -- rpm should increase rapidly to full rpm. You may have to repeat setting the idle and main jet a couple of times. If this does not work, you have other problems.

CNKS is right. There is only one way to do a carb properly and that is to soak overnight in a very nasty acid bath. We had a 5 gallon pale of this stuff when I worked at a Ford dealership. I had to call haz. met. out when we had a spill one day.
I took my carb to my local I.H. dealership where I found an older guy who was a Farmall expert. It was well worth the money.

I went through a similar problem with my 350. My symptoms were black smoke dark spark plugs and and a funny miss after a few minutes of running.

I went through the carb, points, timing and checked the compression (140 - 150 PSI). And while adjusting the main jet I could find lean, normal and ritch conditions.

My problem was the coil was getting too hot. I did a 12 volt conversion and bought a 12 volt coil so I thought I was good. I picked up a 1.3 ohm resister thinking the coil might be too hot and loosing strenth. Now I can bush hog July canary grass in first with out the TA. Good luck
