PTO want stay engaged

I have a 1970 IH Cub. When I engage the PTO it engages fine and if I let go of the lever it jumps out. Is there an adjustment or cure for this

Do you have the proper PTO lever on your tractor? If so, you should have to push down your lever, then pull back the lever to engage the PTO, then release the lever(which is spring loaded) to keep it engaged.

No, there are no adjustments, just parts that wear out. Although you should make sure that the small hole in the shift guide is over the very small nipple sticking out of your transmission cover. This is the only "adjustment" that could cause your linkage to not engage the PTO coupler fully. Otherwise, you have worn out lever parts or your coupler is worn out

Roger that, sounds simple enough. I did adjust the bracket some and it holds as long as its tight against the lever but it makes it hard to get in and out of gear. So loke you said must be some worn out parts

common on a cub that has been well used on the pto.
farmallcub.com and search for the cure it is documented there
or you can keep on using it, do more damage to the internals and replace more parts
Good luck
