I have seen info on why McCormick was called a McCormick and a Farmall a Farmall even though from the same outfit. Just can"t find it. I go according to the books I have when I re-do a tractor. Now I have a 47 or 51 McCormick W9. Can you give me an idea of why they classified the McCormick"s the way they do and the Farmall"s the way they do. Was the McCormick called this as it was a wheatland tractor?(tractors for the west) thanks

Farmall was the name for row-crop tractors. McCormick was the name used on the Standards, early utilities and Grove (Orchard) tractors.

As far as tillage, McCormick or McCormick Deerings pull implements, period. Farmalls will accept mounted implements for cultivation, planting, etc and will also pull implements. Thus the name Farmall, ie farm all. McCormick Deering tractors preceded Farmall, and remained afterward. The Deering part was eventually dropped, and in the last few years before the merger with Case everything was called International.
