Farmall super M

Have a neihbor that just did a tuneup on his super m. Ran real rough when he started. Changed points cond and rotor. Runs fine for about thirty seconds then dies almost to stopping then speeds back up to normal then does it all over again. Tried adjusting carb but does no good. Anyone have any ideas?-Bill Thanks for any answers.

First check the fuel supply to the carb. Start at the carb to see if it is flowing free. there is a screen at the carb fitting, the sediment bowl, and the screen in the sediment bowl, and the inlet from the tank. Each is a known issue at times. I would look to fuel before any other parts are replaced. If it has an inline filter in it, throw it away, and put in a piece of hose until a new line can be installed. Let us know the outcome. JimN

Also check the sediment bowl fitting inside the gas tank. I had a 1950 "M" that would clog the opening into the sediment bowl inside the gas tank. It would allow just enough gas to start the tractor and run just a little before it would die, just like if it vapor-locked. Hope this helps!
