D 239 injector pump question.

My IH 5000 windrower has a D 239 diesel engine with a Bosch injector pump. I have a fuel leak at the back that in the book looks to be sealed by a large o-ring. Anyone have experience changing this out? Thanks for any help, PK.

No it's leaking out side where the pump head butts up to the body. Best I can tell from the exploded view there is only a large o-ring sealing the head to the body at this point.

Mine blew a return hose on an injector.

Replaced the hose but now it's got a derned air bubble in it and I'm having a heck of a time getting it purged.

Darned thing would start instantly before the hose went; now I gotta crank it forever first time of the day. :>(

The parts view shows a small relief valve on top rear from the pump body. I'm thinking this may be the source. I called a pump guy at Gomers Diesel in Missoula and he thought it was from wear from dry fuel causing leaking from pressure parts inside. I've always used a lubricity additive. Hope it's not a pump job.

Allan, if the return is replaced there is special hose from IH; this will eliminate the 'air bound' syndrome. Seen the same on the 312 cid, would run but would not accelerate
