International A still dead

I put new points on, but no spark to spark plug. Put on new condenser that came with points. Still no spark. Traded out another coil which I think is good Still no spark. Put in new spark plugs (over due anyway). Still no spark.

Ran out of time. Now, I put gap at .13, but I wonder if should be .20 Yes, it has a magneto, but it is disconnected and it running of a coil and alternator. I would have thought I still would have gotten a spark (or not?) Any ideas I can try tomorrow.

Thank in advance.

Here's one. It is one of the more buggersome things that can run you nuts on a mag, but it still holds even when you're using only the distributor end of the mag, as you are.

That is the wire between the condensor and the points. They have been known to chafe or be kinked or have the insulation crack, causing a short to chassis through the wall of the narrow passage that wire is routed through to get to the points.

And, just because it never hurts to ask, you do have the switch in the "ON" position, right? I'd rather not describe on a public forum the experience that causes me to toss that out.

Also, do lights and so on work, as in you have a good battery with good connections to hot and ground.

Assuming that the original dist cap is being used yet---check that the small carbon button is still in the center terminal on the inside of the cap. Spring-loaded. Second, is to check that the rotor is pointing to #1 terminal on the dist cap when the engine is on compression stroke TDC. These mags have gears running the rotor that sometimes get taken apart & not put back correctly. Check yours.
