Another old tractor rescued

Found this Swd9 on craigslist about 45 miles away last week went and looked at it for parts for an I9 we have but besides the block being junk and needind a new one the price under a grand seemed pretty good for all the straight tin. Now the search starts for a motor for it it came with a rebuilt head new pistons and sleeves in the box no injectors no carb or intake or exhaust manifolds but thought it was in too good of shape to part out just for tin work and parts the I 9 didn't have like a Hyd pump and belt pto and 540 pto but am gonna start a search for a motor for it even a 335 cube wd9 on ud9 will work but am not sure if it is a wheatland tractor or rice and cane tractor the # is581-j model is S W D 9 anyone know

Tin and tires look like they are in real good shape! What is "junk" about the motor? Unless the block is cracked, I would venture to guess you could save that as well!

Sound like you done good. Head, new pistons and sleeves may be worth twice what you give for tractor. I think SWD9 is just the standard model.
Think they made some oversize 4-5/8 pistons and sleeves for that engine. what size did you get?

The pistons and sleeves are 4.5 or at least thats what the boxes say one was opened the other three were unopened boxes for clevite77 piston and sleeve kits someone had a price of 210 a box written on them. I guess according to the guy we got it from he bought the tractor out of south Dakota in 1990 and ran it a bit and had someone take it apart to fix it had cracked head and sent it out to be fixed and bought motor kit and thats where it stopped and has been resting ever since

the swd9 has a bore of 4.5" , the ihc 600 and 650 have the same 350 cid engine.you have the 80th super built in 1953.production ended in 1956 with just over 6700 units including the rice models.

Hi Dave,

You have seen this tractor in person but may have forgotten about it. It is a diesel and I won't be using the original engine. I think the block is good. Carb and ignition are gone.

If you are going to Pepperell a week from tomorrow, I'll see you there.

Hi Wardner I was going to actuallt try to get ahold of you for parts or info I am going to try to make it to pepprell on sunday I am going to the two cylinder show in Ny fri and sat but am giong to try to make it home for sun when I first saw this tractor I thought of a little 4bt Cummins motor for a bit

Good Find! I recently found a good W-9 in great shape, but my fenders are big clamshell type, and arent like yours.I need a pair of rear weights.I thought maybe my regular IH weights would work, but the hole pattern for the bolts is smaller

If you put out a call for something heavy, you need to indicate your location. I have way more series 9 weights than I need. I am in eastern MASS.
