SM hydraulic filter

I would like to put a hydraulic filter on my Super M. What I'd like to do is clean out the system. I know it would not be stock but I could take it off after awhile of running the tractor. Do you guys out there in the know, think I'm wasting my time, or is there a better way of cleaning the system out, and most importantly is it going to hurt the hydraulics in any way. If you guys think it would be alright, what line would I put it on.

Thanks

It's your tractor so don't worry about the correct police. I have never been to a tractor show where the tractors are judged. You are not working on an antique car or motorcycle.

There are three types of filters

Strainers
Low pressure
High prressure

A strainer is placed between the reservoir and pump. High pressure is after the pump and before the load. Low pressure is after the load and before the reservoir.

IH didn't use hydraulic filters in your size tractor until the 400. Most 400-450's today are running with a collapsed strainer in the reservoir. I have fitted several of my tractors with low pressure spin-on filters near the inlet to the reservoir.

This is just a suggestion. A SM system is not that hard to take apart and clean up first even if a screen or filter is used. Don't know which hydraulic system you have on your SM. When I had one with live hydraulic , resevoir under tank and a aftermarket valve bank, I used a filter in the return line to reservoir from valve bank. If you put something in suction it needs to be sized to stop unwanted particals but open enough that suction is not restricted to much.
IH came out with a suction screen package 363278 R91 for the reservoirs under gas tank that went in behind the suction elbow. Doubt if you could find one now.
