I am looking for a left side door latch for a 986 cab tractor, was wondering if any of you know of a source or a junk yard that might have one.
Thanks D Sellers

Doyle: Greetings from Ontario, how goes things in the south.

Can't help you much with the 986, except to tell you everyone get in and out that left door, even the south paws. Perhaps why the left door latch and hinges take the beating.

Are you sure CaseIH don't have that? A lot of good 86 series tractors are still farming.

Hugh, things are good here in south alabam. We've already finished with the sweet corn, dad sold at the farmers market and was happy. We've had the strangest spring I remember, one day had 11 to 15 inches of rain. That was back in March, now we're hoping for some more to make the field corn. Had two little fords get flooded during the big rain, but that's another story. Got them both bush hogging now and running fine. I plan on checking at the IH dealership for 986 parts, was just wondering if anybody might have or know where a used one could be had. Good to hear from you Hugh, I'll be dropping you a note soon.

I assume you mean the latch that has the striker that latches against the striker plate of the cab frame? There is a serial number brake but the older 986 uses PN.111471C1 at $117.71 from CaseIH. Looks like most of the door parts can still be bought new from CIH. You can goto Messicks online parts book to look parts up and get the prices for them.

Doyle: That is a lot of rain, and I can well imagine you had flooding.

I can remember Aug 1971, I had just started to harvest 75 acres of in bloom alfalfa on flood plain. My 560 and 300 were on a high knol in middle of field. Over night we had 9" of rain. Water was up to axles on the Farmalls. We could only get to them by boat, didn't even try, waited for water to go down. The alfalfa was toast, we put it in silo, cows wouldn't eat it, too much sand. Even if we mixed it 25% with clean alfalfa, they backed off from maximum consumption. My dad told me last time that much rain happened was the week I was born in 1942.
