Cub not running right

We have a Farmall Cub that's been in the barn for about a yr. Prior to storing it, I put fresh oil in it & put stabil in the gas. I pulled it out today...last time it was "really" used was in 2005 when I used it to grade my backyard..other than that, it's only been moved a couple of times, never for more than a minute or two. Anyway, this has always been a trouble-free tractor. Today, it didn't want to start. I took the carb off & cleaned it...I cleaned my rotor & put a new cap on it. Finally had my son pull me w/ another tractor & it did pop start. I ran it for a good hour, it runs better now & restarts if you shut it off, but, it's still sputtering a little. Thoughts? Think the gas could have gone bad in a year? even w/ the Stabil? Just work it some?

Points may need to be cleaned up and yes gas that has sat a year WILL go bad. I drain may tanks when I p[ark them any more because gas now days goes bad in a month or less

This sounds like my SA which sits outside under a tarp for now. It seems to get moisture inside the distributor cap.

I would take off the distributor cap, clean the point of the rotor and clean the brass posts inside the cap with a wire brush or scotchbrite.

I've been tearing my hair out over no-start conditions and twice it has been the ignition/distributor cap.

We're spoiled by the HEI automotive ignitions which will jump a 3/8" to 1/2" gap with minimal failure on every hit. The old tractor ignitions just don't deliver that kind of energy.

Yes, even with the Sta-Bil, the gas will be bad after a year. Drain it out, put in fresh gas and you should be good to go.

it was my points....I just ran down Napa & got new points & condenser & it runs 100%...my son's on it now just putting around to use up some of the old fuel....thanks for help

carb top warps if somebody over tighens the screws, very common
also could have dirt, gum, varnish, etc

farmallcub.com has very good directions for completly checking out the carb

good luck
Ron
