difference of front hubs on farmall m

Hello,
We have a 45 M with casting number 8284DA
We got a replacement one it has 8284 DB on it and is same thickness all the way around. The one that came off of the tractor has notches for the rim to go in. Will it matter on restoring it?
The replacement we got; you had to remove the hub to remove the tire. Ours the tire was mounted on the outside of hub.
The parts book lists 8284 DBXA.
Thanks in advance for info on these differences.

The DA and The DB are "Revision" Letters. The B is newer than the A. The only people who this matters to in a restoration are the "correct police". Self appointed zealots.

There are two types of front hubs. One is the fixed width type that clamps the wheels. The other is the adjustable type with loops on the rim that can be bolted to the inside or outside of the hub, and the rim flips over, for four different tread widths.

This sounds like the adjustable hub.

You don't have to take the hub off to get the rim off from the inside. Jack the tractor up, unbolt the rim from the hub. Drop the rim and tire straight down, then swing the bottom of the tire out past the hub. Lift the tire up and over the top of the hub. It's off.

Those are not notches for the rim, the DA wheels were not made as heavy. Rims and wheels were made to have variable tread settings. Rim can be dished in or out and mounted on inside or outside of wheel. The DB wheel is made thicker for more strength where the bolt holes are, thats the reason they don't have what you call notches compared to DA wheels. Also the DB wheels were made to have a better fit with rim. IH came out with the DB wheel around late 51 or early 52 and then the DB was sold for as replacement wheels for earlier ones. Unless you have a big tire on the rims they can be removed and installed on inside of wheels without removing wheels. Sometimes it seems impossible, but if moved right the rims will pass over wheels.
