cub low boy

I am looking for a small tractor mainly to mow the yard and something that can run a box blade and maybe rear dirt scoop? Would a international cub low-boy be up to this? Is $2000 a good price? dont see any rust..good paint..repainted recent. Any problems to be on the lookout with this model? Have not called owner to talk hrs or rebuild status or even the year. Thanks in advance for any info/help.

Is it a Numbered Series Lowboy, or one of the older Offset Lowboys?
Either way, mowing it will handle quite well. It will handle backblading a driveway, but I don't think you will be happy with a boxblade.
The price would depend entirely on condition, physical and mechanical. The problem areas would depend on particular model (offset, 154,185, 184). Beware of new paint covering up old problems.

the following question was on red power forum this week:

the loboy in question is one of the later, centered models.

fwiw. i'd say $2k with no attachments is on the high side, but not outright robbery.

With these old tractors you stand a good chance of ending up with a "pig with lipstick" (yes I got that from the latest Red Power magazine).

This tractor may look good, but the engine might be shot. You could end up sinking another $1000-$1500 into it without cutting a single blade of grass.

The PTO is live, but that is achieved through a belt drive between the clutch and flywheel. They don't last forever and major disassembly is required to replace the belts.

IMHO $2000 is too much unless it's REALLY in cherry condition.

I've owned a 1960 low-boy for a couple years. I like it OK, but the clutch is a weak point on mine I'd say. The deeper the grass, the more it struggles (belly mower). For short grass it should work well. Sometimes I've seen on this site where folks have power take-off problems. Fun little tractor; that's my list.
