Went to look at a SM farmall it was built at Louisville plant . But it is set up on propane How do I know it was factory or aftermarket. SN 512458- L Seem like it had a u stamped on the tag .
 
Does this tractor have a L on the serial tag before or to left of serial #? and another L after the serial #?
 
Another question, For model does it have SM or SML on serial tag? What you are calling a U is probably a J for rockford clutch. After engine serial #, are there any letter or letters. does the LP tank sit crosswise on tractor?

My little brother has a super M that has the model as SM-L. After the serial number the tractor has listed the letters CJ. Would this be a Louisville tractor with 5000" alt.pistons and 7 mph gears?

If the L is following the SM it was a LP or still is and the C indicated standard altitude equiped. SM never had a 7 mph attachment. Needs to have a 6 digit serial # to be a Louisville not counting any prefix or suffix letters. First post and yours kind of interests me because I have conflicting information on wheather any LP SM ever came out of Louisville. Need more information from him. If he got the serial # right its less than 100 from last louisville made. Remains to be known if its a factory.

Here's what he has. The tag says SML. serial number says F-11740 CJ. The date codes goanywhere from 5-21-X to 6-10-X. X is 1952 right? The odd thing is this tractor has a gas tank and carb on it but it also has the propane hood.

Charles I would say the tractor started as a LP from the farmall plant. If the engine is original it may have a C after the engine serial # or below it. Does it happen to have a gear reduction starter on it?
 
Hi, Gary Sedlacek, Farmalldanzil here. that sn# is L512458 u. I just got back from Horntown where i bought that tractor. Nice farmall for 750.00 but the 3pt is homemade and junk.
