dose any one know how to set the diesel injector pump timing on a International Harvester 656? me and dad need some help thanks for your time

Static inj timing is 1 degree BTDC on number one compression stroke. You remove two screw cover on side of pump, turn engine until mark comes around , might take two revolutions, and line up marks when pointer is at 1 degree on pulley. The automatic advance timing requires a window on that same location and need to know what you are expecting to happen. Some have speed advance, most have load advance. Totally different in expected results.

sorry ,but we dont understand what you mean by window can you please go into a little bit of detail. i dont know the brand of the pump but it has injector lines around the outside of the pump held by two copper washers and a bolt.if you need to you can send it to my email address it is [email protected] if you have any pictures on your computer that you could show us it would be greatly appreciated.

It is a Roosa Master pump. The window I am talking about is a little plastic,"window" that one installs where the little cover on side of pump is. It takes an understanding of the operation of the pump to do you any good. It is so you can observe movement of the automatic advance while engine is running and make adjustments if necessary. To just check the timing you take off the side cover like I said. It is just a little rectangular plate about an inch and a half long by maybe 3/4 inch wide. You didn't indicate if you had pump off or not so I just figured you wanted to check the static timing. If you are installing the pump, you will need to find number one tdc, like take out number one glow plug and turn engine until you have compression coming out and then align pulley one degree mark with the pointer. Then turn pump until the marks in pump align and install. Recheck by turning engine backwards a ways and again turn to one degree on pulley. I don't have pictures to post, not into that end of it. Also, are you having a problem with the engine or just checking it out.

my dad just got done rebuilding the engine, and the engine is acting like its not getting any fuel and he thanks the pump may be out of time but not foreshore, thanks for all your time
