ih 674 hyd problem

i got a ih 674 diesel tractor that has hydraulic issues. im thinking the hyd pump is weak. the power steering turns harder than it should and the brakes dont work right. also the loader goes up slow. i also notice that the loader lets down even when the tractor is running. where is the hyd pump located on this tractor? id like to pull it out and have a look at it. thanks joe.

The let down problem would most likely be leakage in spool valves and/or seals in lift cylinders.
But your other problems are certainly issues with the pump, which you will find down on the left hand side of the tractor. Try and get someone to do some pressure tests first if you can.

Change your hydraulic filiter and clean the bypass valve screen, it probably hasn"t been done in 30 years.

Hydraulic problems, and the brakes don't work right. This is kind of a red flag on any tractor with internal wet brakes. I have been through this movie more than once. The brakes wear out, the disks/bands, disintegrate and the resulting debris clogs the pump intake screen and filters, partially or completely, giving a range of symptoms, from erratic operation to total hydraulic failure. Cleaning the intake screen is a good beginning, if it is badly plugged, you need find out why. Brake failure will show bigger pieces than simple thirty year crud build-up, water contamination will be look like a milkshake, and may take more than one fluid change to clear.
