MTA hydraulic pressure

I recently added a two spool valve to my old MTA for remote hydraulics, but now I don"t seem to have much hydraulic pressure. Is there a relief valve inside the square tank/valve assembly that can be adjusted for more pressure? I plumbed into the right facing port on the rear of the square tank, through the two spool valve, and return back into a tee I put in the filler neck. Also are pump parts available if my pump is worn out?

Your setup seems OK, they made 1200psi, that is not the same league as today's high pressure systems. If it is not up to that pressure, it is not likely the relief it is likely the pump. Pumps are really not rebuildable if the gears have touched the case.
End play can be tuned, but few shops do it.
New pumps are in the 600 to 750 category. Put a pressure gauge on it to see what is happening. JimN

I run three spool valves on several of my SMTA's. Plumb the inlet of your spool valve to the pressure port that points left and is at the top of the three port group. I believe the other two ports are for "delayed lift" and may be affecting your pressure. I have never used those ports.

Let us know how it works out.

Jim is right about the pressure. If you are trying to lift modern equipment, you may have to replace the existing hydraulic cylinders with larger units. If you double the calculated square inches of the piston, you should have no problems with late model implements. There is no need to double the diameter as that will give you four times the lifting power.

One further note.

The Lift-All lever must be pulled back to activate the system. If you prefer to continuously activate the hydraulic system, there is a little tab on the reservoir near the bottom of the lever that can be rotated. It will keep the lever positioned to the rear.

I hooked up a 2 valve set on my SMTA a few years back. I have a hose from the pressure side of the pump to the inlet of the valve, return from the valve goes to the top front, right side of the lift all, bottom port of lift all goes to return side of pump. I have a relief valve in my duel spool setup. Not sure how much pressure I have but I can lift my 12 foot JD hydroswing swather. I don't know if lift all will work the way it is plumbed but I don't use it anyway.

The answer to your question about a pressure relief valve in the square tank (reservior) is yes. You have to remove the it from the tractor and remove the access cover. Place a few small shims (washers) under the spring and this will increase the pressure. Check your pressure before and after so you know how much you raised. Suggest you don't over do it - just enough to operate your equipment. Tom
