reversed the voltage regulater so the wires would hide Hasnt charged since 6volt Does it matter?

Two quick checks. Is the new mount grounded? use a jumper to ground the regulator body to the mount, or shiny metal.
Are the wires on the same terminals?
Bat goes to the Amp Meter load side.
Arm goes to the big terminal on the Gen.
Field goes to the F (small) terminal on the Gen.
The L terminal (if it has one) goes to the light switch. JimN

My bets similar to Jim's, Ima thinkin its wired wrong or not well grounded (BOTH VR and Genny need good ground)

Are the wires/terminals touching each other or have a bare spot somewhere?

thanks guys I didnt change any wires I just turned the regulator around I may have lost the ground

A wire could have broken from the handling required to turn the regulator around (could be inside the insulation). If checking the grounds doesn't find the problem, check for a lost conneciton.
