Hey guys -

Per the advice from a thread I started two nights ago, the clutch assembly was taken completely off the flywheel and disassembled. Both surfaces of the flywheel and opposite plate are in good shape. The plate with the clutch facings are in good shape too(about 1/8" of material left).

Upon removing the tension and taking out the springs, I found 2 springs per hole. A smaller one inside of the bigger one. The smaller one was wound in the opposite direction, so someone was thinking when they were put in (keeps the coils from getting tangled).

Nothing was really set up or rusted tight on the whole assembly, but now I'm wondering if someone added an additional spring, or if it is supposed to be there. This would explain why it was so tough to release with the foot pedal.

Is this second spring supposed to be there?

Thoughts ?

The clutch on my F20 also has two springs per hole. This allows for more tension on the clutch plate. When dissassmebling the clutch there are three threaded bolt holes to install a bolt to release the pressure and dissassemble the pins. Then the bolts can be removed equally to relive the pressure on ther springs.

What I found on my F20 clutch was the holes for the pins in the release lever mounting blocks were worn. This makes it difficult to set the release levers at the same height. I did repair the holes and made new pins. The release levers can be set at equal heights following the instruction manual and the clutch functions very good on the tractor.
