LiftAll Pump removal on F20

My F20 is leaking transmission gear oil into the LiftAll pump. I'm assumming, I hope correctly, that the seal behind the drive mechanism in the pump needs replacing and that means removing the pump. Question: will the pump drop out by removing bolts holding to the mounting plate? It's an M pump with the T shaped drive couplings. There is almost no room between the pump and the bell housing so it would have to come straight down. Any advice appreciated.

If you are getting tranny fluid into a lift-all you have two seals out. The transmission shaft has a seal and a bearing on it and the lift-all has a seal and a bearing.

If that is really an M pump, it's a heavy thing. Easiest way to do it by yourself is with four pieces of all-thread. Take two of the bolts that hold the pump to the mounting plate and replace them with all-thread and run nuts up to hold the pump up. Then take the other two bolts out and replace them with all-thread and nuts. run the nuts down the all-thread to lower the pump.

An alternate method is to build a v-chaped platform you can fasten to a transmission jack to raise and lower the pump with. You can't just put a rod through the cultivator lift holes in the bottom of the pump because it will tip as soon as you clear the frame.

If you know an old IH mechanic, he probably has a special-built handle to allow two men to lower that pump.

Be sure to line up the coupling so one groove is vertical to allow the pump to come straight down.

The tee to go in the lower holes is eacy to build, just weld a ear on it to fit the slot and a handle on the other end so you can tilt the pump as required. It is easiest with two people and a bear with one person and no jack but it can be done. I've never tried the all-thread method because I have T handles.

I removed mine last year to replace my clutch. if i remember i had to unbolt the bell housing and remove it to get the pump out. i had to rotate the bell housing 180 degrees to get it out. with the bell housing out it will come out. the pump is very heavy so use a jack.
