My leaky MD

My MD runs good, but has all the usual leaks one might find in a 60 year old machine - leaking liftall pump, and transmission seals. One leak that I'm wondering about is an antifreeze leak coming from behind the fuel filter bracket that bolts to the engine block. Antifreeze seeps from where it bolts on. Is there a gasket that is supposed to be there? Any ideas appreciated.

I think (but do not know) that the bolt holes are supposed to be blind. If someone put a longer bolt in the hole and tightened it it could break the casting inside, and allow coolant to get to the hole. Putting #2 non hardening permatex, or Teflon pipe tape on the threads might be a good fix. JimN

Thanks for your reply. Upon closer inspection, I believe the source of the leak is the cover plate just above the mounting holes of the filter bracket.

Part # 264360R12 HEADER/Retired CRANKCASE REAR WATER HEADER WITH COVER (Order package, 272804R91) (Will work for 51313DA) This was clipped from the caseih.com online parts catalog. The part is a sheet metal stamped cover that has coolant behind it. They rust out and can be fixed by careful brazing or welding in patches. The part is no longer stocked (the word "retired" in the description)
The words (Order package 272804R91) Will work for 51313DA) is vague, and might be looked into, but I think these covers are not going to be found.
It is a pretty easy fix, but you will need to make a new Gasket. and it will remove all the Coolant if removed, I would drain it first, Jim

Jim, thanks for all your info. Like you say, an easy fix, just time consuming, like all these projects are.
