300 IH Utility steering wheel nut

I"m working on a 1956 International Utility tractor with power steering. I"d like to replace the rusted acorn nut on my steering wheel with a stainless steel version. A 3/4" stainless steel nut is readily available for JD and supposedly my tractor. The one on my tractor is larger than 3/4", but seems smaller than 7/8". I cannot locate a 13/16" nut at all. It"s definitely fine threaded, but I cannot confirm the size.

Does anyone know for certain what size the nut is? The local parts stores only carry 3/4" fine and coarse threads and 7/8" coarse thread, so I cannot confirm.

Thanks,
Zim

Hi, Zim.

I happen to have the steering wheel off my 300U right now, so I measured the outer diameter of the threads on the shaft. There seems to be a slight taper, with 0.798" at the top thread and 0.808" at the bottom. My guess at the nut size would be 13/16" (0.8125").
