I am new to this forum. I need help identifing a tractor a friend recently bought and has asked me to work on. It appears to be a super AV but it has a magneto. I thought the supers all had distributors. Also, it has hydraulics. The six volt system has a cut out on the generator that must be manually controlled from the light switch. I thought the supers all had voltage regulators. The plate on the tractor is hard to read but the serial number is 257413 and the model appears to have 2 small a's in front of a stamped v. I am curious about exactly what we have here, specifically what year and model it is. Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

By the serial# provided, it should be a '48. (First serial# in '48 was 250082, first serial# in '49 was 268196, according to listing on this site.) Could have been ordered with a mag, it was an option. It's an early SA, so it could have the cut-out. Judging by the #'s, slightly more that 18,100 made in 48, your's would have been in the first 7,400 or so. The "AA" on the serial # tag is correct, the A & B series serial#'s all started with the prefix "FAA", there may not be an "F" in your prefix, they may not have had room to stamp it with the "V" in the line. Keith: Most Super A up to serial number 310300 in 1951 had magneto and the cutout relay. I'm not saying magneto and cutout relay disappeared then either. Magneto was still an option on 130. A, SA, 100, etc. had more changes during production runs than at model change. In fact there were more changes during the Super A production run, than in the remainder of runs of A, 100, 130 and 140 including changes at model change time.

The info jal has given you on the date is correct. If you wish to check got to left of this page under Research & Info, serial numbers. Follow through on directions.
