Radiator removal on 1948 Farmall M

I am ready to remove the rad off my Farmall M, I noticed that it has a rod, thru the middle top of the rad, I assume it for the steering. How do i remove it. I have the serviceman guide, parts manual, etc, but it does not show or tell how to take the round shaft that goes thr the radiator off. Please advise folks

Undo the coupler (ujoint) on the steering rod and then take the end out of the steering shaft (big nut looking object on the steering gear round box) and wind the shaft out of the gear box and consequently radiator, Dont forget the two nuts that old the radiator to the chassis on the bottom. Henry I ended up cutting the studs off and welding new ones on later.

When you put the radiator back on, be sure to adjust the front-to-back brace to prevent the hood from wearing into the air intake pipe. Do this before you tighten the top hose or the bottom bolts.

It looks like the hood has already worn out pretty well by the air intake pipe. It seems that the rad was out of the tractor before and they never aligned it up upon install. Thanks for the great tips/ideas to preform this task.

Those two nuts you talk about on the bottom, i cannot really see them, but i do feel a nut and a spring on each one, they are on each side of the rad, under the frame. Do they have to be unscrewed, or can it be pushed up, its hard to see there. Do i just use a socket??, small hole for a wrench, it looks offset?? Got everything else off, i hope.

Yes, they have to be unscrewed and a deep socket is best.
