They told me not to paint it.

When I got this "Regular" I took a poll of those whose opinion counts, (The readers of this forum). All who cared said,"Do not paint it, leave her in her work clothes." But, since I only got it to have a project, my wife convinced me, it would only be half done until it was painted. The original gray just looked too..too..too gray, so, since it only really has to please me, I chose I gloss black, and some customized decals. I am ready to take my lumps from the purists in the group. (I know I deserve it.) But, I would love to hear from anyone that thinks it looks OK now that it is done.

I like it.

And I like your attitude: It pleases the most important person...YOU!

I feel the same way about my F14. Purists would have a sh!t hemmorage. It's got parts from a half-dozen different F12 and F14 carcasses, hacked up fenders, wrong seat, H wheels/rims/tires, farm shopped electrics, a road gear out of an F12, and it was painted with rattle cans.

And ya know what? It suits me just fine.

Looks nice. Everyone here on YT told me not to paint my F-20, but I don't like a rust bucket so I painted it IH red. I'm happy with it. I'll post pics sometime.

well....nowadays every parade needs at least one black queen!

I think black looks great on a machine, fine job.

Those on here who know me, know that I'm far from being a stickler for original color. I like it, and it looks like you did a heck of a job.

Looks darn good in black! I really like it. As long as you are happy (and your wife is happy with you), that's what matters.

Everyone says I should paint my H, but I leave it rusty because I like to work it - don't have to worry about scratches when working the trees, either.)

I thought your farm was in southwestern ND? Wouldn't the nearest tree be over a hundred miles away? ;o)

Hence, "working the trees" as they have been planted by us. If you see trees in our part of ND, you know someone lived there at one time!

Really stands out. Well done. I like it a lot.
I generally don't like the gray at all either the light or medium gray just seem blah. JimN

Im not a purist per say, but i feel that if somehting is a nice original it should be left alone. They are only original ONCE!

hate me for it, but i think you absolutely RUINED a nice Regular

Just my opinion, but to me, "nice original" means that the original paint is still there, and even though the paint may be thin and faded, it IS still there, and should be left that way.
Judging from the "before" pictures, I would say that the original paint is long gone. There is very little if ANY paint still on that tractor, and if it is to be preserved, it DID need new paint, and since it IS your tractor, you are free to paint it as you choose. Even if you had chosen gray or red for the color, there would be some that think you did not choose the "correct" gray or red, so I think your choice of gloss black is an excellent choice, and is every bit as "correct" as the high gloss, super shiny, super high dollar paint jobs that some folks think is necessary.
I LIKE your tractor.

These old tractors will only rust away if not protected with a good coat of paint.I think it looks like a great paint job and looks really sharp. Purists can always sandblaster it and let it set in the rain a few weeks if thats what floats there boat. I like mine shiney though!

Thanks for all the feed back, I do appreciate the kind words, as well as the honest and sincere critics. I grew up on the farm and left for college and the big city as soon as I could. Now that I am retired, I find that I feel more at home with my Farmall friends than I ever did with my fellow professionals. Bless you all.
See you all at the swap meets and antique shows!

Looks good and if the next owner wants it gray he Or she can paint it. My IH is RED not the factory color but I like it.

If you like it that's all that counts. I think it looks sharp, but i also liked its looks in its "work clothes"

Years ago I got a 1943 MB jeep that a guy had all painted up etc. and returned it to its orignal OD color. Paint color is not permanent,
