Glad to see you got back ok Jim and you liked our tractor show wich is one of the largest in the UK. Hugh you asked about Atkinson spreaders recently, they were made at Clitheroe just over the border in Lancastershire. The company were bought out by Econ spreaders in Ripon Yorkshire and now only make salt spreading bodies for trucks. If a Yorkshire man wanted to tell you the water runs over the weir he would say twater runs over tweir, hope you can understand me. MJ

MJ: Back in 1974, I had just purchased a Delta 88 Oldsmobile with a 455 cu in and 4 barrel carb. my Yorkshire friend used to refer to it as, "Your BIG AMERICAN CAR" One day I invited him to go to a farm equipment show with me, close to 120 miles one way. I filled the car with gas before I picked him up. After we drove about 100 miles, I drew his attention to my gas gauge, still over 3/4. His responce,"By the hell, what's it got, a 40 gallon tank. The Mrs. told me to take lots of money, be polite and buy the gas." I said, Gordon it has roughly same size tank as your Chevelle. Well nothing doing, as we approached the show we had to fill with gas, he wanted to know the milage. He knew the distance, he did the figures and came up with 22.6 miles per Imperial gallon. He was very annoyed as he was only getting 18 mpg with his Chevelle. I told him his Yorkshire foot was too heavy. I said,"You imigrated to Canada to buy a big American Car, then when you got here your big mistake was buying a half big American car." We had a lot of fun, he was a great guy to travel with especially on farm related events. He was so interested in everything farm related.
