McCormick Deering W6 serial numbers

Can anyone please explain the suffix codes on a recently acquired W6 tractor. The Chassis No is WBK 3349 X3A and the engine is WBK M1365 X3A,
What does the X3A and M mean, and can the engine be dated? Thanks.

X3A is kerosene engine, low speed gears. The M should be with the WBK, WBKM is the engine serial number. You have a 1941 chassis with a 1940 engine, assuming your numbers are correct. Check the engine number again, Im thinking it should be 3365, not 1365.

Hello John, Thanks very much for the information. I have rechecked the engine serial number and it is definitely 1365, which rather interesting! However, at least it confirms the engine is original, which is important as we are restoring a W6 as an example of a Lend-Lease tractor used in our area in a war-time machinery pool.

I dont think its original to the tractor, although the suffux does match. With the numbers you gave, you have a 1941 chassis, with a 1940 engine dropped down in it. I hope someone will correct me if I wrong, but at the least, those numbers should match, and if anything the engine number will be sligtly higher.
