300u power steering ?

I have a 300u w/pwr str. Above the pwr str unit on the steering column there is a small pipe plug. It has been drilled out so it will act like a breather plug. From time to time oil will leak out of this plug making a mess on the battery.
I have replaced seals/o rings in the unit on the steering column and it still leaks oil fron this plug.
Have any of you guys had this happen before?
what did you do to fix it?
What would happen if I put a regular non vented plug in it place? My IH dealer's parts listing doesn"t even show this little plug.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Instead of plugging it, I'd put a piece of neoprene hose over it and send it down to where it wouldn't make a mess.

John D is on track. It is probably a groove worn in the place a seal rides. Draining it away is a good answer (unless you are showing the tractor and want it pristine) if so it will require another disassembly to put a speedy sleeve, ot changed seal location to seal it up. JimN
