300 Utility TA Removal

Hi everyone. I have split the rear sections of my 300 utility, pulled the transmission driving gear and exposed the needle rollers (overrunning clutch rollers?) Now I have a problem. I don"t have any idea how to get the seal out to replace it. Also, I"m concerned about how I"m going to get the needle rollers back in without them falling apart. This is the one with 8 rollers and needles. Any help is very much appreciated.

Unless they are new, do not reuse them, put new overrunning clutch parts in it. They are sure cheaper than re splitting the tractor to do it twice. I do not know on the seal removal, if you can see the body of the seal, it should come out with a slide hammer and hook, or sheet metal screws put into it for the slide hammer to pull on. JimN

Hi, Dustin.

I've never personally dealt with needle bearings (yet), but I've read that some guys slather a bunch of grease on the rollers and then they pretty much stick where you put them.

Did you remove the complete t/a unit or just the transmission drive gear and shaft from rear of center housing? To put the 8 rollers in the ramp needs removed from transmission drive shaft bearing housing then install it and rollers on the end of t/a carrier housing then bolt it all back in the above housing. If you have the complete t/a removed the seal for outside t/a carrier should be easy to see how to remove. If you are meaning the seal on the input shaft of t/a, the 3 planet gears are supposed to be removed then the shaft slides out and seal is replaced. I have replaced that seal a few times without removing input shaft for a some just wanting a working unit on the cheap, but don't recomend it. A old planet gear shaft shortened or other shaft the same size is handy for installing or removing planet gears with needle bearings.

Sounds to me like you just did a single split between ta and transmission. You cannot get the overrunning clutch back together that way, you need to split behind engine and start your disassemly from the front. I have split the rear section many times for transmission work and also to pull the rollers out of a worn out overrunning clutch, threw them away and eleminated ta, also removed the operating linkages.
