I have had a 1947 H in the classified ad section of this site for about two weeks with no response. It's a good tractor ready for work or restoration, runs great, starts easy, metal straight, and has a fair paint job, tires all up with no leakers. I have been advised that for what I am asking 900.00 it is a steal. If I get no response this next week Iam going to put it in a yard sale 6/20/09.ED

I paid 900.00 for 2 H's that dont run,a 42 and a 48.The one is in real nice shape exterior but kinda rouigh interior, the other one is the exact opposite.Ida been better off to buy yours and not have the 2 money pits i got.

Well Ed, if your stuff gets no responses in the for sale ads.......I guess that means you need to bring it here to the main forum and stump for it......that way you"ll be sure that everybody knows about it........right?

There was a pile of H"s built and it seems as if most of them are still around....consequently, the demand hasn"t outstripped the supply.

Without matching attachments...like mounted cultivators, planters, sickle bar mowing machine and so forth........critters like an H are pretty much useless as t!ts on a boar hog.....unless a person just wants a parade queen/toy tractor to ride on. Having implements......any implement(s)... with an old tractor really helps to sell it.........unless it"s a Ford 8N....then folks are lined up to pay $3,000 for them...just ask those fellers on the tractor talk board (hehe).

If your tractor won"t sell at the asking price, that usually indicates the (price) is too high, otherwise it would have already sold.

Location, location, location. The cost of transporting adds quite a bit to total price, so even though the asking price is very reasonable, it may be that a buyer who really is interested might be too far away. 2 weeks is really not very long. Be patient. Also, you might try deleting the ad, wait a couple of days and then list it again

Attitude and threats work really well to sell things too... (sarcasm)

"If it doesn't sell by XXX I'm gonna scrap it!" Go ahead. It's only a tractor. I'm not going to feed your ego and pay too much to "save" a machine that's neither rare nor unique...

There's a guy who put a pull-type New Idea sickle mower on craigslist last weekend. It's a heap by the looks of the pictures. "$100 or else I'll send it to the scrappers on Monday!"

Guess what. He took the ad down on Monday, and put a different one in the trade/barter. "$100 or trade for a lawn mower/case of beer" or something like that.

Ed, there are other venues to sell besides YT. Try the local craigslist, for example.

Average H in running condition, complete.. with good rims and tires in excess of 50% sell for $7 - $800 all day long up here... Have a couple in the barn I didn't even give that much for at auction.. One has brand new 13.6 rubber on the rear too...

I hate YT Mag classifieds... Photos are too small, no enough detail in the adds, etc...

Craigslist is a good place to sell.

Be as thorough in your description as possible. High quality, adequate size photos help also... Seeing detail, clearly, is nice when you can't stand next to it and look with your own 2 eyes.

All about supply and demand...

Thank's for all your responses, I haven't posted a picture but I will soon on this board. By the way a picture of this tractor along with another one of mine was the cover picture on Fast Line TN edition Oct 01,with the US Flag behind them. This is the only one I have seen with two tractors, and was the next edition after 911. I was kinda pleased they used my tractors at this time. ED

I have a two mold board rope trip plow and a disk that could go for a little more money. Also the lift all is good so it can be rigged with a three point hitch,in fact I just took the three point off before I listed it. Ineed to keep the three point for my other H. Ed

Did you at least put a complete horseshoe drawbar and swinging drawbar assy back on the tractor? Does it have fenders?

I paid 375 for a farmall H. it even had a wide front end. the guy said it didnt run but i had it running within 15 minutes of getting it home. now that was a steal!!!!
