Farmall M belly pump problems

Hi, I just got a 46 M the other day and tried to lift my 3 bottom jd plow with it and it will barely lift the plow. I filled the fluid and tried all 3 ports and same result. Is my pump in need of rebuildreplacement? Thanks

first thing i'd do is put a hydraulic pressure gauge on and see what kind of pressure the pump is putting out. the early h and m pumps only put out maybe 6-800 psi. the later pumps were machined to a tighter tolerance and put out around 1000 psi. if you got pressures in this range, could be the cylinder on the plow is bad.

The plow may need a third more pressure than the Farmall will make. If it is a three point plow, it was designed for a later tractor. Put a 1/3 larger diameter cylinder on the plow and it will raise well. JimN
