Tappet Cover on SH

Is additional sealant needed on the thick cork gasket and cover for the tappet chamber on a H/SH??

"Gasket Sealer" is designed solely for the purpose of separating you from your money.

The main purpose of gasket sealer is to hold the gasket in place while you assemble the parts. Most of the time, you do not need it.

What you need is a nice soft cork, when I worked at the dealership I would crank up the steam cleaner and soften them gaskets up in a second. If they got oversized some you could just push them under the cover as you started to tighten it down. Worked great. Now days, I have to just use the hottest water I can find. I learned early on that when you put them on hard as a rock they will need to be retightened a couple times as engine is used. Customer comes in and says , hey , you forgot to tighten the valve cover. NO, gasket took a set, but they never really believed me of course so I softed them up. Doesn't work on all cork in different spots but works great on the valve cover and side covers on them models.
