Rebuilding a 169 cu engine and the pistons that came out are flat caps. The overhaul kits reference step pistons or domes or fire crater pistons. Will these fit without whacking the head? Anyone know what this engine came out with- are my flats a bad rebuild from years back? If I do have to stick with the flats, any ideas as to who still sells a kit? Would like to get the old girl running before summers out! Thanks

It may have been rebuilt with flat-head pistons, but you can use the stepped-head pistons if the head hasn't been shaved too many times. You can get kit's off this forum under "Marketplace".

When you set the head gasket & head on there with the rocker arms, rotate the engine and see if everything clears. Adjust the valves too. Hal

the kits are made to fit your engine. there is plenty of room for domed pistons. the original pistons were flat. you will get more power from domed pistons. i can sell you an inframe overhaul kit with the cylinder kits rod and main bearings and gaskets for $500 shipping included.

thanks guys! we"ve got a kit, just didn"t want to turn a new kit into a used kit if it wasn"t going to work. we will give it a go... thanks again
