Update to leaking SH

I pulled the water pump and outlet casting on the SH this morning and BOTH gaskets clearly show leakage. They are wet at the bottom. When I removed them some of the gasket stayed with the block and some stayed on the water pump. Interesting thing is that when I scraped the remains off you can clearly see that the leak was not from between the gasket and the metal mounting surface but through the gasket itself (cross sectionally). What's up with that?!!?! I will take the previous advice and get some IH gaskets (and a new lower connecting pipe while I'm at it). I don't want to take this apart again!!!

Good Idea on the new.
Some cheep gaskets are delaminated in layers. Good NAPA gasket material works very well to make new gaskets. Position them on the housing, and use the ball end of the ball peen hammer to gently "nick" them to size along the edges. Even the holes can come out well. Jim

Hi Mr Mayor: That's good feedback. Thanks. It would be nice if more posters gave detailed feedback like that... ag

I have a tiny ball pean hammer I use for making gaskets a lot. Thought I was the only one that did that.
