I have a super c with a loader on it.I wiped out a bunch of teeth on cam gear shouldn,t the key have sheared on pump. Also for replacement is ther a difference in hardness of gears used to new, or by manufacter.Ebay has new for 75 wengers has new for 60.I don't want to do this again.any advice would be great.thanks Brett

No one can vouch for the integrity of
a manufacturer's gear, except the seller, and they warrant the product. A used gear has no warranty.
That said, I believe in good used gears for that application. The Key would have been nice if it sheared, but it is not designed to shear. it is not a mechanical "fuse". It was designed to carry as much torque as the gear teeth could supply, and that was probably 60 to 70% of the maximum expected momentary pressure applied.

The limiting factor is the pressure relief valve on the hydraulic system. If that has been tweaked, or is stuck closed, it will cause breakage. I would use a used gear from a later model tractor that is number compatible with the gear in yours. The caseih.com site has parts diagrams that show the highest compatible gear number for replacement. If in doubt, look at IH 200 and 230 tractors to see which gears they spec for use. JimN

Thanks, one question Where is the pressure relief valve. cultivater box is 100% rebuilt. not sure if it is loader valve or the block in front of seat

They have one for sale on this forum and say it will fit the C153 engine used in the 504 tractor too. Cost is $132.00. The IH part number is 375712R1. Hal

I agree with JimN - very likely the relief valve is either set too high or is inoperative.

I'm not familiar with the Super C nor its relief valve location, psi setting and adjustment. However if there's any question about the existing valve suggest installing new, independent relief valve plumbed into the pressure line immediately downstream from the pump. Set the new valve no higher than the design pressure spec'd in the SC owner's manual.
