IH 47 baler

Hi Scott, I used my H last year with no problems on a 47 baler. Baled in 2nd gear at about 3/4 throttle. I would reccomend against the SC. Not enough power. You may also find the H to be underpowered if your field is hilly &/or your windrows are heavy. - Mike

Scott, since nobody else has jumped in, I'm gonna offer my opinion. I'm NOT familiar with the IH 47, but last year I baled a couple hundred bales with my '39 H and a pto-powered New Holland wire tie baler. Did fine in lowest/first gear. It did not have enough power to also haul a bale pick-up wagon behind it. Nice thing was that it didn't shear any shear pins! Good luck!

Agree with others, don't try the SC. Neighbor baled hay for years with a 46 baler and an H. It will be a much more pleasant experience if you have or can get a tractor with live of independent PTO.

Horse hockey!

We have baled tens of thousands of bales of hay with a IH 430 baler hooked to a SC and 230. Used a Super 68 Hayliner before that. The flywheel is on there for power. We even pulled a wagon behind the SC when on flat ground.

Hook that thing up and come back and let me know if a SC will pull it or not.

Keep in mind, HP on SC = 23+ or- HP on H= 24 + or-. The baler won't notice much difference. I have baled with baled with C, SC,230 and an H. Ground speed and lack of IPTO is the worst trouble and that ain't a biggie once you get the hang of it and rake your hay accordingly.

Condition of the hay is important. If the hay is nice & dry, the baler pulls easily. If hay is a little tough the baler will pull up to twice as hard. Size of windrow is important also. Don't double windrows with the SC.

Unless the engines are tired, either tractor will run the baler just fine. It doesn't take but a handful of horsepower to run a baler.

You might want the H on hilly ground due to the additional weight of the tractor and being able to control the baler better.

Hi there. Does anyone know where I could get a hold of instructions on setting the needle operation? So far having no luck.

Thanks
