does turning the tires around on the back of your tractor help with better traction. I mean going against the rotation design?

No, I knew a guy most of my life that did some custom combining in OK, KS, and NE and we were kidding him about having the tires on his combine backwards he said that is so when I get stuck I can back out in most cases.

Drive tires are generally mounted with the tread pointing upward when viewed from the rear, because they unload from center to outside of the tread in soft or sticky ground, as opposed to the dirt simply building up, and pushing toward the center. Driven tire such as combine 2WD rear tires act just the opposite so they are mounted with the tread pointing downward when viewed from the rear. However, Combines with 4WD will have the rear tires mounted the same as the fronts with treads facing in the same direction, all for the same reasons.

Jimmy, You are Sooooo Right here! I knew many Irrigated Wheat/Corn/Milo growers who ran their Combine tires backwards, For that very reason To get unstuck out of wet tailwater areas.
The second reason was on farms set up on 40in rows, corn stalks would go to eating away on tires a little off center to the inside after just a season or 2 on a new combine tire. So the practice of turning combine tires around started from that. The ability of getting unstuck was a side benefit of a farmer wanting the tires to last as long as possible. After that guys would have their Dealers rotate tires before they took delivery on new machines.
Later,
John A.
