over the weekend i was doing a little feild culivating i worked the ground deep in 1st gear then raised it up to harrow off the clods and get a good seed bed i started in second gear just wasnt going fast enough so switched to third after about 3 acres and starting to hit a hill in the feild my farmall m just stoped moving shocked i pushed in the clutch made sure it didnt jump out of gear let the clutch out and didnt move put it in second and finished the job what could be wrong with my m?

Third and forth gear on the countershaft in the trans are keyed to the shaft with a large Woodruff Key. If that sheared, it will have neither 3rd or 4th. All other gears will work just fine, and no stripping or jumping out will occur. If all the teeth stripped off of third drive gear, it would have made terrible noise, as it would if the countershaft gear teeth stripped. So if no 3rd, and no 4th, that is it. caseih.com - north America
