Battery problem

The battery in my SC is 2 years old. It is a 12v conversion, and I tested the battery not running. it was 12.5 volts. I started the tractor and it was reading 14.43v. I have not started the tractor in a couple of months so I decided to start it up.
The problem is there is water "acid" coming out of the plugs in the top of the battery. The voltage is right where it always reads so I don't understand why it is leaking. Any ideas? Thanks Ron

High charging rates (from a slightly discharged battery, and a good high output alternator) can cause a battery to gas quite heavily. It isn't boiling, it is making hydrogen and oxygen out of the water in it. If it is pretty full, (right to the rings) it will show some liquid on the surface.
I would say it is normal. Rinse it down, charge the battery with a 6 amp, or 2 amp charger for a few hours and go from there, If it charges more than the 14.4 volts when near fully charged, the regulator needs to be changed. (another tip is to move the #2 terminal of a 10SI alternator, to the battery connection at the starter motor. This senses the true battery volts closer to the battery, and can lower the system voltage some what. 14.2 to 14.4 is however OK. JimN

One more thing to add to Janicholson's comment is to check the electrolyte level. Most batteries are overfilled and when charged or the weather warms the electrolyte expands and escapes either around the cap or worse around the post seals.
