Fertilizer Chain

I'm working on setting up my side dresser and planter for my Super A and I need to adjust the flat chain to the currect length. How do I remove the extra links? I tried to slide them out and that didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks

Turn the links until one link lines up with the slot in the other. Lay one link edgeways on anvil or other sutible surface and hit other link with hammer. They come right apart.

Here's how it was done more easily "back in the day":

Item labeled 613 (Q-5027) in the photo is a "steel chain breaker".

You inserted a link in the slot of the appropriate size for the chain you are working with, then align the slot in the link you are removing with the the adjoined link, then tap them apart with a hammer.
