International 350 timing gear marks

I am finally putting this C169 engine back together. The cam broke and I have the replacement cam already in. The timing gear is marked with a dot on one tooth and 2 dots on a tooth that is 180 degrees away. The crank gear has a single dot and the pump/distributor gear has a single dot. Which single dot do I line up with my cam gear single dot? I surely want to put this in correctly.

Also I need to reset my valve lash. Does anyone know what the cold valve lash settings would be on this engine?

Thanks in advance. This site is great

Jeff - Line up the SINGLE dot on the cam gear to the mark on the crank gear, and the DOUBLE dot to the mark on the pump gear.

Tip: Make sure the distributor rotor points to the #1 plug tower on the cap before you mount the pump! If the rotor is pointing to #4 give the pump gear one complete turn so the rotor points to #1, then mount the pump to the engine.

.020" then reset when warm to .017" (does not need to be fully warmed up, 15 minutes or so will do. JimN

To double check Bob's reply. When you turn it over TDC on #1 the valves on #4 should be ex just closing and in just opening. If not try the other mark. If you know what to look for, you should be able to tell by the position of the cam lobes on 1 & 4.
